Your second post of this unit will focus on the research you have found to support your topic.  Your post should:
  • Introduce your support with a grabber (get the reader thinking about supporting your topic)
  • Several (at least 2-3) reasons to support your topic. Include evidence from your research. Explain your evidence to the reader (allow the reader to understand explaining the importance or significance of your factual, researched evidence)
  • Conclude your supporting position (emphasize what you MOST want your reader to know)
  • Cite at least 2 sources in MLA format (the same format we used for the Bloom's Project)
Your writing will be 2-3 paragraphs in length.  They should be written in a formal style (minimizing or eliminating the use of first-person and second-person pronouns).

Example:
In the past 60 years in the United States, there have been over three thousand studies conducted regarding homework and its effects on students (Cooper).  While each study is different and each is tailored for different populations of students and audiences, there are several results that stand out across many studies.  Homework has a positive effect of student achievement because homework allows students to develop better time management and study skills, mastery skills taught in class, and to increase individual student involvement in classroom instruction.

"Duke University researchers reviewed more than 60 research studies on homework between 1987 and 2003 and concluded that homework has a positive effect on student achievement"; this positive correlation was much stronger for secondary students, those in grades 7 through 12 (Cooper).  Students at the secondary level have had more time and experience to develop better time management and study skills.  These skills have come from their involvement and engagement with homework assigned throughout their schooling.  Students need to practice time management and study skills in order to effectively complete assignments, spend time with family, and participate in extra curricular activities like music, art, and sports.  While students are using their time management and study skills at home they are also practicing the mastery of skills taught in class.

Homework "gives each student an opportunity to demonstrate mastery of skills taught in class; to increase speed, mastery and maintenance of skills" (Center). By practicing skills at home, students are working toward mastery of the content, skill, or subject.  Like all skills, related to education or not, the more practice students engage in, the more likely they are to achieve mastery.  Because students are practicing skills at home they are also more likely to participate in classroom instruction.

Homework gives each student the opportunity to increase their individual involvement in specific skills and knowledge inside their classrooms, while also enjoying learning (Center).  Parents and teachers have to show our children that homework is not boring or a waste of time.  There are numerous benefits to doing homework correctly and handing it on time. Students can benefit from the life skills they learn by doing homework and then go back to the instant communications world of high-speed computers, the Internet, cell phones, text messaging, social networking and instant messaging (Bishop).

  1. Lacrosse and baseball are two of the most popular sports in the spring, but with one is better? Lacrosse is considered to be a faster sport because each player is always running on the field. Lacrosse can also generate lots of pain when a player gets hit by the ball, especially if the player is a goalie. Usually being goalie is tough because the ball is coming toward the call at 90 miles per hour or more. Lacrosse also, produces more contact and a need for more equipment than baseball.

Baseball is also a popular sport to play besides lacrosse. Baseball players definitely have a lot of guts because a ball could be coming at them at 70-80 miles per hour and could hit them where there is no pads. Baseball requires better hand-eye coordination to catch the ball or receive a ground ball. The ball coming at a player is much harder to catch then a lacrosse ball coming at a lacrosse player’s stick. Baseball players also need lots of strength to swing the bat around to hit the ball far.

  2. Is Modern Culture Ruining Recent Generations Childhood?
    -It Is-

What is something you love, care for, and would sacrifice anything for it's safety? Chances are, you answered with your child. Recent generations have been saved from child labor and the pull of drugs and alcohol has weakened. "In the United States and elsewhere, a broad-based “child saving” movement emerged in the late 19th century to combat widespread child abuse in mines, mills and factories. By the early 20th century, the “century of the child,” as a prescient book published in 1909 called it, was in full throttle" (Bakan).
Kids have had little to do in this new large amount of time they have available, especially in the winter, when it is just too cold to go outside. What do they go to but their easy to access phone, tablet, laptop, or even game console to talk and game with their “friends”. Even with some parents having a close eye on what their kids are doing, some just don’t have the time or effort, and leave their kids to talk with total strangers on the internet. Technology is advancing at a rate and interaction with "real-life" adults has decreased is leading to a growth in the number of kids suffering a higher rate of mental problems (Roberts). The rise in mental problems in kids can be partially blamed for the stupendous rate at which technology moves forward and disconnects kids from real life.

    4. You did a good job with the quotes, and the grabber was a 9/10, but I think some sort of statistic that basically says that kids in the '60's spend 1 hour a week on average in front of the TV, while kids today spend 25 hours a day in front of a TV, or on their phones would really show that kids are spending a lot of time on devices.

  3. Dance is a big part of many Olympic sports such as figure skating, gymnastics ext.. Through my research this week, I found a lot of evidence pointing to the dance is a sport side of the topic. I read through articles and debates, and they brought up some really good points that I researched further.
The definition of sport is “an activity involving physical insertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against each other or others for entertainment.” The definition for dance is “move rhythmically to music, typically following a sequence of steps and requires physical skill, stamina, and tolerance to pain and hard just as many other sports.” When you compare the two they are actually very similar, they both say that they require physical skill and activity, and the dance definition even says like many other sports.
During my research, I found a list of characteristics that make up a sport. The four reasons are they must be competitive, must have an opponent, must be organized, and must be used for pleasure. Dance can be very competitive, have you been to a dance competition, girls are competing everywhere you go. must have an opponent, at dance competitions everyone is going against each other. Must be organized, if a dance competition wasn’t organized, than girls would be fighting each other to get on the stage. Used for pleasure, the main reason why people dance is for pleasure.
Now through definitions and characteristics, you can see that all of the evidence points towards dance is definitely a sport. I can’t wait to see where this information takes me next week.

  4. “The American College of Sports Medicine noted a 2006 study that reports the relationship between increased activity in children and higher grades.”(The American College of Sports Medicine). Children’s higher grades can be the positive effect of a hearty exercise. Student’s grades did not improve when involved in less difficult physical activity. If students of all ages persevere themselves into trying their best in gym, then it will result in higher academic scores if they did not.

“In the last decade, neuroscientists have discovered the biological mechanisms underlying the relationship between exercise and intellectual performance.’’(Jeffrey Rossman). The body’s production of nerve growth factors is increased by exercise. Therefore, there are more connections between brain cells from the brain being stimulated. From this, learning levels increase more quickly. Physical education helps the brain of each child, so they can perform their best in school.

Lots of high schools start their classes before 8:30 a.m. which can threaten their health, academics, and sports performance. 15 percent of high schools start at or after 8:30 a.m. since pediatricians made a petition for it. The rest haven't agreed with it. It's the schools' risk to take to effect student health. Hopefully, they'll figure out that better sleep means better students.

  6. Technology has improved so much over the years and has helped one specific thing that relates to my blog. technology has become very advanced when it come to hospitals. to get gastro intestinal surgery done earlier in the years they would have to do a big opening in your stomach but because of technology today. doctors can now make a small hole for a camera so this makes it a lot easier on some people when they get surgery done. so thats one thing good about having surgery done. this makes the recovery easier and shorter.

after surgery the doctors make sure that you are in good care and give you a schedule of some sort to make sure your digestive system can heal. you also get to stay at the hospital for 3-5 days so you can heal enough to drink. then they give you a diet and check up on you to make sure that you are fully healed and ready to start eating and drinking regularly.

In total the process of having gastro intestinal surgery done has been made a lot easier and a way bigger choice for weight loss. This type of surgery has gained a lot of popularity since it was first thought of. there has been alot of improvements to gastrointestinal surgery

Second, in the first paragraph, you went right from introducing your topic to gastro intestinal surgery. I think you should proofread and clarify a few things. Other than that, it's really good.

  7. Now with modern day technology and studies it is quite clear that too many concussions lead to brain damage and\or related brain and head injuries, we all know that. But should Sports team pay the money to buy all the necessary equipment to deal with concussion and head related injuries. I personally think if that school and professional teams want to play contact sports such as football, then they should be able to pay for the supplies as well, I think if school teams can’t pay to buy their own protective gear than they shouldn’t be allowed to play contact sports. By doing this sports team could reduce and help recover players who have experienced concussions.

That is how I personally think that sport teams can help reduce concussions.

  8. “For the first time ever, it has been widely reported that women are less than a percentage point away from making up the majority of the national workforce,” (Covert). Over the last 30 years, studies have been conducted regarding whether or not women should have more leadership roles in the workforce. Although all the studies are conducted differently, several results have been gathered from these tests that have stood out. These results show that women should have more leadership roles in the workforce because of the attributes women behold, their attitude to their colleagues, and the fact that women in important positions increase the revenue gained by a company. Many studies have shown that Americans saying women are stronger than men in terms of being compassionate and organized leaders and therefore should be eligible for more important positions.

“Each year since 2005, companies around the world that have more than one women on their boards have seen a 3.3 percent bigger stock market return than those without any women, according to a new report from Credit Suisse,” (Edmondson); this statistic shows that the presence of women have increased the capital gained by companies. “Other metrics show the same result. Companies with at least one female board member had a return on equity of 14.1 percent over the past nine years, greater than the 11.2 percent for those without any women. The stock valuations are also higher for gender diverse boards versus all-male ones,” (Edmondson). When women are in important positions, for example a CEO of a company, equity and stock value are higher which therefore makes the economy stronger. These conclusions are made because scientists believe women hold traits that men do not have. Some of these traits include the idea of compassion and organization; these traits are important when someone is a business and or political leader. The Pew Research Center has conducted a study on traits that women have that make them impeccable business leaders. In the area of politics, women excel at working out compromises, being honest and ethical, working to improve the U.S. quality of life, and standing up for beliefs. Women excel at being honest and ethical, providing fair benefits, and mentoring employees in the business field. Could these statistics prove that women should have more leadership roles in the workforce and possibly open more jobs for females?

With the help of these studies, women have shown they can handle the pressure of an important job in politics or business. They have shown that they are just as worthy and as great as men. People all over the world have to understand that women are no longer an unequal to men, but a strong body that could improve the state of the economy. “During the economic storm of 2009, women leaders proved they can be as tough, decisive and competitive as men. USA Today reports that stocks of the 13 Fortune 500 companies run by women for all of 2009 were up an average of 50 percent,” (Covert) A new era has begun that supports the idea of women enrolling in more important leadership positions.

  9. Do you have a dress code at your school? Well many other schools also have a dress code for the students to follow while attending school. These dress codes typically include no short-shorts, no tank tops, if you wear leggings you must cover your bottom, etc. The dress code creates a safe learning experience with no distractions which will help students earn better grades and pay attention more in class. The dress code also helps students in many other ways.
Some ways that dress codes help students are the following. One way is that it teaches students to respect themselves and wear appropriate clothing. It also will help them when they get a job because they will know what is appropriate to wear to a work place and what is not. Another way is that dress codes unlike uniforms allow students to wear most of the clothing that they want and are comfortable in as long as it’s school appropriate. Lastly, the dress code encourages students to worry more about their studies than their outfits for school. Dress codes have many benefits that positively help students with their learning experience and later in their life with careers.

  10. Sport: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. Some people say swimming is a sport and some people think it isn't. Swimming has been around since the Stone Age. However it did not truly become an organized sport until the early 19th century.

Swimming's first appearance in the Olympics was in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Michael Phelps the most decorated athlete in the modern Olympics is a swimmer. Swimming requires skill, almost all the muscles in your body, and dedication and you have to work hard to succeed in it you want to swim competitively. For it to be a sport you also have to involve physical activity. Swimming is a great workout and you can swim individually or with a team. Swimmers have to be aerodynamic to travel through the water and if you make one little mistake you could end up losing the race.

  11. Nick Johnson is currently a professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets. Last year, Johnson was voted Pac-12’s Player of the Year. The Arizona Wildcats made $12 million off of Johnson last year. All he got was a $41,000 scholarship. The Pac-12 is a group of universities that play against each other in multiple sports. The Arizona Wildcats are one of the teams in the Pac-12. Yet in the midst of all this spending, many players say that they don’t have any spending money, and are having to be fed by their school, and are living in poverty.

The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is making about $900 million per year today. In 2011-2012, they made $871.6 million. Of this, 81% was made from TV deals, and 11% from championships, which includes ticket sales. In football, Jim Harbaugh is making over $5.5 million per year as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football program. “Coach K” of Duke basketball, who recently won his 1,000 game as coach at Duke, among 7 other coaches. It seems to many that these programs and the NCAA itself has much money to spend on coaches of amateurs, yet the players, who without them the NCAA would cease to exist, get none of the money.

Players are not allowed to sell jerseys or autographs for money. This issue has reared its head around the NCAA’s greatest stars, including Johnny Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner (an award that is given to the player a committee feels was the best player during that season), Todd Gurley, the star running back for the University of Georgia, were both suspended for giving away autographs for money. Jameis Winston, the 2013 Heisman winner, was also suspected of selling autographed merchandise this season. Ironically, the NCAA was found to be selling No. 2 Texas A&M jerseys when the word “Manziel” was typed in the search bar. The NCAA admitted to being “hypocritical” after taking down the items from sale 3 days after being contacted and notified of this by Jay Bilas, who works for ESPN, a sports TV network.

These are two of the many reasons that the NCAA should pay college athletes for their play on the field. This will allow college athletes to pay for college tuition, and have some spending money to buy food, clothes, and other accessories that the players may need.

Some critics have said that the new curriculum has missed important people, what they have done, has been focused on the wrong information, and is not patriotic (CNN). They say that the it focuses on negative things about the U.S. Other people support the new curriculum and guidelines.

People who support the proposed curriculum say that the focus on concepts, essay questions, primary sources and post 1980 material (USA Today). The main point is to increase critical thinking. The old curriculum had focussed mainly American exceptionalism. In this case American exceptionalism is when they focussed on everything good that the U.S. did.

  13. The definition of art is something used as an expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. Graffiti does just that. It can go from being used to express one’s thoughts and feelings to being used to show creativity. In some people’s minds, graffiti is a different type of art.

Art doesn’t have to be beautiful in order for it to be art. Art is a representation of the human creativity. Things don’t have to be pretty to be creative, and not all graffiti is beautiful. In fact “beautiful” is a word of opinion. People see things differently in the world. Whether or not graffiti is beautiful to the human eye, it still follows all the “requirements” needed to be considered to be art.

Graffiti has many purposes. For one thing, it is used to demonstrate one’s emotions. Graffitists use graffiti to let out what they are feeling sometimes. Sometimes the graffiti on the walls represent anger and hatred. Sometimes the graffiti on the walls represent love and compassion. This is what art does as well. Like Picasso and da Vinci, graffiti artists express themselves through paint and drawings.

Graffiti has only been around since the late 1900’s, so some people blame it on the rambunctious kids and teenagers of today. However it seems graffiti isn’t always given a chance. Many people are quick to judge graffiti, too quick. They’ll see bad words in paint on stone walls and immediately be disgusted by it. Not all graffiti is bad though and it’s often judged unfairly. People say it’s garbage and pointless. Graffiti is thought to do nothing but harm by some people. However, perhaps they’re wrong. Perhaps graffiti is not a waste of type, but a form of art. Although graffiti may not be like The Mona Lisa or The Starry Night, graffiti can be art if given the chance.

With that said, graffiti is art. It’s just not always given the chance. Just like other artwork, graffiti can be used to express feelings and thoughts. Although it may not always be pretty to look at, it’s still showing human creativity.

  14. Beauty pageants are very popular in the U.S, there are even T.V shows dedicated to them. But some people think they are bad. Even though there are some bad qualities beauty pageants can be good. Many beauty pageants teach girls many life lessons while others boost their self confidence. So beauty pageants can be good.

There are many ways that child beauty pageants are good and one of them is that they teach girls life lessons that they can use in their life later. Chantelle Wright says “The interviewing, filling-out applications, and articulation skills learned during the pageant process help in all walks of life. When applying for a job or college, all of the above acquired abilities will be very useful.”. Many beauty pageants teach this by asking each contestant a series of questions that make each of them think and come up with a great answer later teaching them to think on their own.

Pageants can also boost girls confidences. Abbey Curran (miss Iowa) who was born with cerebral palsy won the Miss Iowa pageant. She said that some kids in pageants were made fun of and bullied like she was. So when the little girls win something they feel better about themselves and happier. Also In some pageants everybody who enters gets a crown making everybody who joined happy even if they didn’t get first.

  15. Peyton Manning’s $4.5 million dollar home steals the show by a long run. In 2012, Peyton Manning purchased a 16,464-square-foot estate that has seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and three partial bathrooms. Obviously he makes more than the average American so as a result, he can buy bigger, and better things. Football players make (on average) $4 million dollars a year. The average American makes $51,939 a year. Many people debate whether that is ethical or not. I think It depends on how hard you work.

Football is obviously a physically challenging sport for many. Especially at an older age broken legs, arms, or sprained ankles may not heal right. $21 million may be the perfect amount for a famous QB on the Denver Broncos team. I am not saying that being in the military is low-risk, but neither is a popular contact sport that millions of raving fans (who pay a lot of money for super bowl and playoff tickets I might add) around america sit down in front of their tv’s to watch.

  16. In the United States technology has become a part of everyday life. People today are using technology more often than reading a book or hanging out with friends. This post will show three bad effects on technology usage today. The first bad effect I will discuss is kids are not having many real-life interactions with friends and family. The second bad effect I will discuss is technology is creating kids with short attention spans. The final bad effect I will discuss today is kids are getting eye conditions because kids are staring at the blue light screen too long.
The first effect I will discuss in this post is kids are not having many real-life interactions. Today kids are using technology for everything they can because kids want to play on their ipad or play video games. This causes kids to avoid interactions in real life with family and friends. This is bad because if kids do not have real life interactions they become reclusive and not outgoing to try new thing or meet new people.
The second negative effect I will discuss in this post is technology is creating kids with short attention spans. This current use of technology has made kids have very short attention spans. This is a negative effect because kids can’t concentrate in class and in extracurricular activities. This creates kids that fail tests and end up failing school because they can't focus in class and rather than study kids play on technology.
The final negative effect I will discuss in this post is kids are getting eye conditions because they spend too much time on technology. This is creating problems because kids have to get glasses or contacts to fix the damage that technology causing. This occurs because when people stare at the bright screen for too long damage is done to their pupil. This creates damage to the pupil that is not always permanent, but it is still ill-advised.

      you.

  17. Violent video games, should they be banned or not? Violent video games are a very debated topic. Many say that they should be banned and others say that they shouldn’t. I think they should be banned. They can influence kids in no way that you can imagine. For example, it can make them angry very easily or be very disrespectful to their parents. Violent video games can also influence kids to do very bad things that they should never do such as kill people.
The reason violent video games should be banned is because it can stimulate violence. For example, in 2013, an eight year old kid in louisiana killed an elderly caregiver after playing a very violent video game (Grand Theft Auto IV). This shows that it is not good to let people play violent video games. Statistics also say that in 2008, there were 974 murders, 2,505 r*pes, and 43,000 aggravated assaults. Some of them were stimulated by people playing violent video games. Violent video games also teach people not so good things and also a lot of curse words. A 16 year old named Kerry Goodliff said "I used to enjoy multiplayer gaming. Granted, it expanded my vocabulary for homophobic insults considerably, but I've never felt the urge to travel to war-torn regions and practise my sniper skills for real.” This says that she did learn a lot of bad things like insults and cursing.
Overall, violent video games should be banned. They can teach kids bad things like curse words or stimulate violence. There are plenty of cases where there were murders that root back to them playing violent video games. So, if you ever get into the debate of whether or not violent video games should be banned, you should definitely consider banning them as a good option.

  18. “After thousands of years of male dominance, we now stand at the beginning of the feminine era, when women will rise to their appropriate prominence, and the entire world will recognize the harmony between man and women,”-The Rebbe. Even with being different genders and looks when it comes down to strength, they are equal. Women can be as strong as men even due to their gender.

“The strength of something can be the measure of how much force or pressure it can withstand over time (like a flood wall). Or its potency (like a pesticide). Or its intensity level (like a radio signal). Its fighting capabilities (like an army).” Now after hearing the definition of strength, why can’t we say men and women are equal. First of all when we talk about how much force or pressure it can withstand over time women beat the men in that aspect, according to a fact found, “A woman has greater constitutional vitality, perhaps because of her unique chromosomal pattern. Normally, he outlives a man by three or four years in the U.S.” Also when it comes to combat or fighting capabilities women equal out with men.”Women are more effective in some circumstances than men. Allowing women to serve doubles the talent pool for delicate and sensitive jobs that require interpersonal skills not every soldier has.” Which is saying even if men might have more brute strength than women, women have more mental strength than men.
As you can see in many aspects women have equal or more strength than men. So even if they are a girl women can have the same amount of strength than anyone else.

  19. Did you know that 8 out of 9 students think schools need more creative opportunities. Plenty of students agree with this topic. I found a very interesting TED Talk about this. Schools do not give students enough creative opportunities.
On The Learning Network students were able to comment their opinions on the article. Many said they think schools should have more creativity, but some disagree.
Student Mia says, “At my school we have to conform to certain ways we do things. In places like art class, where they tell us how to draw with no elway. We should be able to do what we want with limitations, and express ourselves.” Other kids that said commented said something relatively close to that. Teachers give out projects and say you can do whatever you want, you just have to follow the rubric. Students are also ask teachers if they can do something on their project even though the teacher said they could do whatever they want. The students think they need to ask permission for something they want to do, because they think the teacher will not like their idea or think it isn’t good for the project.
In the TED Talk, Ken Robinson talked about how schools “Kill” creativity. Creativity is as important as learning literature. His talk taught me a very good lesson. He said “ Kids are born with creativity, but when they start school they are afraid of showing their creativity. They are afraid of being wrong, and they are taught that making mistakes are the worst thing that can happen.”. TED Talk actually sort of described me. I do not like being called on because I am afraid of being wrong. Students need creativity to learn to be themselves.

  20. Many parents have pushed for a later start to the school day for teenagers, but school boards’ won’t budge. Right now just 15 percent of high schools start at 8:30 or later, and 40 percent start before 8 a.m, but it is scientifically proven that school should not start till after 8am "We want to promote safety with kids," says Dr. Cora Breuner, an adolescent medicine specialist at Seattle Children's Hospital. "We truly believe that our teenagers are getting six to seven hours of sleep a night, and they need eight to 10." Kids need to stay awake during school and waking up at 6 in the morning is not really helping.
“Studies have found that lack of sleep in teenagers increases the risk of traffic accidents, and makes them more vulnerable to depression and obesity. Teens who get more sleep do better academically, with better standardized test scores and better quality of life.” says Dr. Judith Owens, a sleep researcher at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., who wrote a review of the scientific evidence on teen sleep needs that accompanied the recommendation. I believe school should start later for those reasons, do you?

  21. Some colleges accept high-school students based on mostly their grades and a limited amount based on extra curricular activities. Some high-school students aren’t the sharpest knives in the kitchen but do many good things such as sports, volunteer work, etc. outside of school and grades. It can be an issue for some of those students when applying for a college and getting accepted because the main thing that colleges or universities look for in a student is how well their grades are. Although there are some colleges that also look at extra curricular activities unlike Harvard University which mainly accepts students for high grades.

I believe that colleges should look into more depth about a student's extracurricular activities because even if that student doesn't have all A's, they may want to have a career where sports or volunteer work comes into play more than knowing what the cube root of 156 is. Not everyone gets a job or has a future where smarts are the most important thing. If a student hopes to be an artist when they grow up, colleges should not only base their acceptance only on grades. Considering that they may want to major in art, grades aren't as important whereas if they decided to major in engineering, math and knowledge would matter a whole lot more. Colleges should not only accept high-school students based on their grades, but also many other important activities that they are involved in such as extracurricular activities, sports, art, etc.

  22. For over a hundred years school students have been required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge was recited in all public schools and many private ones. Every morning before classes children would recite the pledge. Although in recent times things have changed and some believe it should not be said, history shows it teaches kids to appreciate the country and our freedoms.

The pledge of allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy. The pledge was first recognized by the U.S. government in 1942. The pledge has a long history in the country. It also has a lot of benefits. It teaches children about what we stand for as a country with words such as “liberty and justice for all.” It also teaches students that our country is a republic.

For many years students were made to memorize Abraham Lincoln’s 270 word Gettysburg Address. Lincoln thought that what was done at Gettysburg would be forgotten many years from then. Lincoln said "The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here." Even though he thought his words would be forgotten, they were not, due to students being made to memorize the address.

As you can see there are very important reasons why students should recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge has been an important part in U.S. history over the years. Millions of students have benefited from learning what the pledge teaches. The pledge should should be taught in schools so millions of students do not forget what the nation stands for.

Free wifi would be a great thing because of all the things that could be prevented, saved and made possible with it.There are many people that have amazing ideas on how to improve life but can't share their ideas and information because they don't have a wifi source. If free wifi was in parks, cities, and other places where people hangout communication would be improved.
Many people may not realize that not everyone in the world has a wifi source. Wifi costs money and not everyone can afford this expense. If this valuable resource was accessible to more people a lot of amazing things could be accomplished at home and around the world. Wifi is a priceless resource that should be available to everyone.

    1. I like your idea but you have to put in your sources at the bottom to prove that you did your research. Also I would like to have more information and evidence on why this is a good idea. Another thing is, that you should be realistic about this. If you were going to use internet routers like the ones we use at home, it would be very expensive. The cost of one router is about 50 bucks and the range isn't that great. The average city is about over 100 square miles and it would take at least 400 to fill every city. Multiply that by 50 and then it would cost about 20000 dollars per city. This is only a city that is 100 square miles. Think about bigger cities like New York which are over 400 square miles. If you used the radio towers or something that AT&T or Verizon use, you're essentially putting these data companies out of buisiness. Now, people will be using free internet rather than AT&T or something. The idea is great but the money costs it would take to fund this are rather high and it doesn't look so realistic.

  24. The group known as I.S.I.S. (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is a very radical terrorist group. If you did not believe in their religion, Radical Islam, then I.S.I.S. would kill you. They destroy towns and villages just for publicity. Kill innocent lives to anger countries. The United States of America should send the military to Iraq and Syria to destroy I.S.I.S.

One reason the U.S. military should help fight I.S.I.S. is that they are recruiting men, women, and teenagers from the U.S. and other nations. Many people also support I.S.I.S. and will try to help the group in any way possible. In January 2015, U.S. authorities arrested an Ohio man and an I.S.I.S. supporter who had plans to bomb the U.S. capitol.

Another reason that the U.S. military should help Iraq and Syria with I.S.I.S. is that if no nations (including the U.S.) help these two countries then I.S.I.S. could spread and it could destabilize the Middle East. If I.S.I.S. takes over Iraq and Syria then the group could take over Europe and Asia, and eventually attack the U.S. Also I.S.I.S. could take over major resources in the Middle East, such as oil.

The U.S. should put boots on the ground to prevent I.S.I.S. from killing any more civilians and recruiting anymore people from our country. If the U.S. and other nations join together to stop this terror of I.S.I.S. then we could prevent innocent people dying.

  25. The film industry is a very big part of modern day life and will continue to be. The only thing is, is it making the big bucks then. Movies are a very large business in todays world. Movies cost a lot of money to make so movies really should be worth it.
Movies are a major part of the U.S. domestic market and export. Movie’s revenue from last year was $564 billion and is projected for $679 billion this year. But movies aren’t just a major part in the U.S. they are all over the world. “Hollywood is like an octopus with tentacles extending across the globe. For decades most of its sustenance came from domestic ticket sales within the United States but in recent years, overseas markets, particularly China and Russia, have become increasingly important,” says Tom Brook. Global box offices are raking in the big bucks and helping different types of markets all over the world.
In different countries movies even have different content so as to grow the story a little more there and maybe make more money. “You have to start taking in other cultures and things that they value and how they view the world and incorporate that into your storytelling,” says Caleeb Pinkett, producer of the movie After Earth. But movies can also have different effects in different countries. “Sci-fi war film Battleship – starring Liam Neeson and Rihanna – only generated $65m in ticket sales within the US but brought in an impressive $237m overseas,” Tom Brook said. This shows how changed movies can create a different effect in different areas to create a larger profit.
Movies are a huge part for many people with the stories told and can show so much more. From this large business much can be learned. If international premieres are taken into account then so much is opened up in finances. More money can be made! Movies in different countries can also be changed a bit to create that spark of interest to bring home the money.

  26. Kids by the decade are getting less and less interested in baseball. The New York Times says “there's no reason that they would compare the numbers of viewers for baseball to football”. They also said “Baseball is falling out of national conversation”. Baseball has been decreasing in viewers more and more each year. In my opinion I don’t see how running around three bases is very interesting to watch over and over again. I think the vast majority of people are looking for a more action packed based sport to watch. Sports like lacrosse, football, and hockey are all contact sports, on the other hand baseball is not a contact sport. Not many people turn their televisions on each year to watch the World Series.
